This artwork series is a continuous collaboration between community groups and artist, Elizabeth Cardenas Sevilla.
The series is inspired by Intersectionality and the art process. By creating artworks that express each individual artists personality we can experience the power of our different lived experiences.
Intersections No.1
Acrylic on Canvas
25.5” x 25.5”
The Artists:
Melissa Labrado, Patrick Huddleston, Julie Hoh, Honji Li, Sola Ferrell, Rodrigo Gonzalez, Erica Violette, Christine Schepens, Ronesha Cains, Christine Horn, Chris Okubo, Ted Bundenthal, Joshua Roy, Ana Montiel, Alyssa Santiago, Gillian Palumbo, Katie McDougle, Samantha Crucil, Elizabeth Cardenas Sevilla
The Process:
Artists created a 6”x16” canvas artwork that would be divided into 1.5” strips. Each artist selected the colors that expressed what they feel when creating art in YMCA’s New Horizons monthly art class with Artsty101. Artists explored the art process further through mark making in colors and lustrous elements they chose to further communicate these emotions. The strips were arranged meticulously into 4, 12”x12” squares and carefully woven together. They were permanently attached to 4, 12”x12” gallery panels and are one unit to be displayed with a 1.5” space in between to form a larger intersection.
YMCA New Horizon Members’ works are created in color and Artsy101 Artist and Art Facilitators work is created in various black textures. This was done to uplift the voices of the YMCA New Horizon Program Artists and as a personal choice of the artist Elizabeth Cardenas Sevilla.
